Project Objectives

The project "Multifunctional Nanofibers for Advanced Wound Care" (FIBERCARE), led by the Lasers Department at INFLPR and CITST, integrates electrospinning with Matrix Assisted Pulsed Laser Evaporation (MAPLE) to create innovative, multifunctional nanofibers. The project's primary goal is to develop cellulose acetate (CA) nanofibers, enhanced with bioglasses (BG) and ciprofloxacin (Cipro) using MAPLE, for advanced wound care applications. The project aims to address the challenges in wound healing and infection control, leveraging the synergistic properties of the combined materials. It envisions a holistic approach to wound care, focusing on accelerated healing and infection protection, marking a significant innovation in the field. The project's objectives include designing and synthesizing CA nanofibers, enhancing their functionality with bioactive and antimicrobial agents, and evaluating their antimicrobial and wound healing effects. The innovative combination of techniques and materials aims to overcome limitations of current treatments and introduce a novel solution for wound care.
